Consumer Prices Index 12-month average rate in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was 8.0%

In March 2023, the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month average rate in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was +8.0%, increasing by 0.2 percentage points (pp) when compared to the previous month (+7.8%).

The underlying inflation indicator, measured by the total index excluding unprocessed food and energy, registered a rate of 7.1%, which is 0.3 pp higher than in the previous month.

Goods recorded a rate of +9.2% and services of +6.3%.

All CPI classes showed positive changes, with the sharpest increase recorded in “Restaurants and Hotels” (+17.6%)”, "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" (+15,1%) and “Transports" (+8,7%). Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" (+0.1%) was the class with the lowest growth.

In Portugal, the value of that rate was +8.7%, 0.1 pp higher than in the previous month (+8.6%).

When comparing March 2023 with the same month of 2022, the price change was +7.8% (+7.4% in the country), -0.9 pp compared to the previous month.

In turn, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, the CPI change in March 2023 compared to the previous month was +2.0% (+1.7% in the country).

In March 2023, the average value of housing rents per square meter of floor area in the Region had a change of +0.7% compared to the previous month and of +4.8% if compared with the same month of the previous year.
