12-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) remained at 3.5%
In September 2025, the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) recorded a 12-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 3.5%, the same value as in the previous month.
The underlying inflation indicator — the indicator that excludes unprocessed food and energy products — stood at 3.3%, 0.2 percentage points (pp) lower than in August.
The prices of goods rose by 2.4%, while services recorded a more significant increase of 4.8%.
The largest positive changes were observed in the expenditure classes “Restaurants and hotels” (9.9%), “Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” (4.5%), and “Health” (4.4%). In contrast, the class “Clothing and footwear” was the only one to record a negative change (-0.5%).
At the national level, the 12-month average rate of change of the CPI stood at 2.4%, the same as in the previous month.
In year-on-year terms, that is, comparing September 2025 with the same month of 2024, the rate of change of prices in the Region was 3.0%, representing a decrease of 0.3 pp compared to August 2025.
The largest positive changes were observed in the classes “Restaurants and hotels” (7.9%), “Health” (4.9%), and “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” (4.4%), while “Clothing and footwear” recorded the most significant negative change (-1.9%).
At the national level, the year-on-year rate of change of the CPI stood at 2.4%, 0.4 pp lower than in the previous month.
On a monthly basis, the CPI in the ARM recorded a change of 0.7% in September 2025, following an increase of 0.1% in the previous month. Among the various expenditure classes, the largest decrease was observed in “Transport” (-0.9%), while “Clothing and footwear” recorded the most significant increase (+18.3%).
For the country as a whole, the year-on-year rate of change of the CPI was 0.9%, after a decrease of 0.2% in August.
In September 2025, the housing rent per square meter of floor area in the Region increased by 0.5% compared with the previous month and by 7.1% compared with the same month of the previous year (0.6% and 7.0%, respectively, in the previous month).
