In both variables, the values recorded correspond to new absolute monthly highs.
The cumulative figures of guest arrivals for the period from January to August 2024 (1 501.4 thousand; +5.7% compared to the same period in 2023) also demonstrate growth, as did the overnight stays, surpassing 7.9 million (+6.4% compared to the same period of 2023).
For comparability with data released by Statistics Portugal (INE), it is necessary to exclude local accommodation with fewer than 10 beds. Following this criterion, overnight stays in tourist accommodation in August 2024 showed a year-on-year decrease of 0.3%, contrary to the national trend (+3.8%).
In the Region, overnight stays by residents of Portugal decreased by 4.9% compared to the same month last year, amounting to approximately 204.0 thousand (16.6% of the total), while those by residents abroad increased by 6.8%, reaching 1,023.5 thousand.
