In February 2015

Madeira’s hotel industry kept up a steady pace of growth

Initial estimates for February 2015 show increases in the tourism indicators with positive year-on-year rates of change in overnight stays (+8.0%), total revenue (+7.5%) and lodging revenue (+11.6%).

At the country level, the rates of change stood at 11.2% in nights spent, 12.5% in total revenue and 15.4% in revenue from accommodation.

Looking at the data broken down by market, it should be highlighted that the year-on-year change rates in nights spent by the Portuguese and foreign tourists  were +14.2% and +7.4%, respectively.

The bed occupancy rate in the reference month reached 55.7%, 4.0 percentage points higher than a year before and the highest among the seven NUTS2 Portuguese regions.

The average income per room (RevPAR) recorded a year-on-year change rate of +12.5%, increasing to € 32.49.

DREM publishes provisional data for 2014

The provisional data for 2014 show that  the number of overnights in Madeira’s hotel establishments stood at 6,278,711, up by 4.3% when compared to 2013. The bed occupancy rate was 61.0% (0.3 percentage points below the initial estimate).

In the establishments of rural tourism and local accommodation, the change rates in the overnight stays were 13.7% and 16.1%, respectively.
