In May  2015

Overnight stays increased by 0.8% and total revenue by 5.0% year-on-year

Initial estimates for May 2015 show increases in the tourism indicators with positive year-on-year rates of change in overnight stays (+0.8%), total revenue (+5.0%) and lodging revenue (+4.2%).

At the country level, the rates of change stood at +5.8% in nights spent, +6.5% in total revenue and +7.0% in revenue from accommodation.

Compared to the previous months of 2015, the growth in the main variables was less pronounced.

Looking at the data broken down by market, it should be highlighted that for the reference month the year-on-year change rates in nights spent by the Portuguese and foreign tourists  were -16.7% and +2.8%, respectively.

In the first five months of 2015, the overnight stays increased by 4.7% when compared to the same period of 2014, while the growth in total revenue (+7.4%) and lodging revenue (+9.6%) was more pronounced.

The net bed occupancy rate in the reference month reached 65.7%, the same value as in May 2014.

The average income per room (RevPAR) recorded a year-on-year change rate of +3.5%, increasing to € 41.58.
