In June  2015

Overnight stays increased by 7.4% and total revenue by 16.0% year-on-year

Initial estimates for June 2015 show increases in the tourism indicators with positive year-on-year rates of change in overnight stays (+7.4%), total revenue (+16.0%) and lodging revenue (+13.5%).

At the country level, the rates of change stood at +7.0% in nights spent, +14.7% in total revenue and +16.7% in revenue from accommodation.

Looking at the data broken down by market, it should be highlighted that for the reference month the year-on-year change rates in nights spent by the Portuguese and foreign tourists  were -4.6% and +9.0%, respectively.

In the first semester of 2015, the overnight stays increased by 5.4% when compared to the same period of 2014, while the growth in total revenue (+9.2%) and lodging revenue (+10.8%) was more pronounced.

The net bed occupancy rate in the reference month reached 70.8%, 5.1 percentage points higher than a year before.

The average income per room (RevPAR) recorded a year-on-year change rate of +13.8%, increasing to € 42.93.

More rounds played in Madeira’s golf courses

The data from the Golf Course Survey show that the number of rounds played in the three golf courses of the Autonomous Region of Madeira in the first semester of 2015 stood at 24,212 (+2.5% compared to the corresponding period of 2014). 61.7% of those rounds were played by non-members, mainly coming from Nordic countries, Germany and UK. 46.9% of the total rounds were sold by the golf courses themselves, 27.8% by tour operators and the remaining 25.3% by hotel establishments and similar.

Number of transit passengers aboard cruise ships in Madeira’s ports increased

According to the data provided by the Port’s authority, 284,658 transit passengers aboard cruise ships were counted  in the January to June 2015 period, increasing by 18.2% year-on-year.
