Births and marriages increased compared to 2014, while the number of deaths decreased
The final results of the demographic statistics for 2015 show that the Autonomous Region of Madeira registered a natural decrease of 664 persons (-995 in 2014).
In 2015, 1,947 live births to mothers living in RAM were recorded, corresponding to an increase of 12.0% compared to the previous year. The sex ratio at birth was 97.1%, revealing the prevalence of the female gender. 36.3% of the live births belonged to mothers under 30 years of age and 33.6% to mothers aged between 30 and 34 years old.
The number of registered deaths in 2015 (2,611) was smaller than in the previous year (2,734). 93.6% of the deceased persons aged 50 or more and 64.2% were older than 75 years. January was the month with the highest number of deaths (303), while the lowest value was registered in June (184 deaths).
In the year of reference, seven deaths under 1 year and seven dead fetuses were registered. The infant mortality rate in 2015 was 3.6‰ (4.6‰ in 2014).
793 marriages were counted in 2015, an increase of 40 compared to 2014. Only 1.0% were same sex marriages. The highest number of marriages was registered in July and September (113 in both months) and the lowest in April (33).
