Commercialisation of “Madeira” Wine decreased by 13.0% in volume and 10.9% in value
According to data provided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute, P.I., the commercialisation of “Madeira” wine topped 644,826 litres, generating first sale receipts of 4.1 million euros. When compared with the corresponding period of 2017, both quantities sold and sales value decreased by 13.0% and 10.9% respectively.
For the period January to September 2018, the year-on-year change rate of sales value as well as of the sales volume were positive (+3.3% and +6.0%, respectively).
It should be highlighted that in the first nine months of 2018, exports to Denmark recorded year-on-year increases of 31.7% in volume and 32.6% in first sale receipts. There was also a growth in the exports to France (+26.8% in volume and +31.4% in value). Inversely, the Germany market showed negative change rates (-22.0% in the quantities sold and -28.3% in value).
