In the 3rd quarter 2019

Commercialisation of “Madeira” Wine increased by 4.5% in volume and 2.2% in value compared to the year-ago quarter

According to data provided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute, P.I., the commercialisation of “Madeira” wine stood at 674,120 litres, generating first sale receipts of 4.2 million euros. When compared with the corresponding period of 2018, the quantities sold increased by 4.5% and sales value by 2.2%.

In the January to September period, the sales volume and receipts decreased by 8.6% and 8.8% year-on-year.

It should be highlighted that in the first nine months of 2019 there was an increase in the exports for Mainland Portugal (+47.5% in volume and +21.6% in value), United Kingdom (+20.1% in volume and +1.5% in value) and Germany (+15.0% in volume and +11.8% in value). Conversely, the “Madeira” wine sold to Denmark decreased by 34.1% in volume and 22.2% in value, while the sales to the Netherlands dropped by 21.5% and 24.1%, respectively. Exports to France also went down by 19.1% in volume and by 24.2% in receipts, which decisively contributed to the overall drop.
