Commercialisation of “Madeira” Wine increased inboth volume and value
According to data provided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute, P.I., the commercialisation of “Madeira” wine stood at 3.4 million litres, generating first sale receipts of 17.9 million euros. Compared to 2013, the quantities sold increased by 5.8% while the sales value grew by 6.5%.
Exports to Germany recorded noticeable increases of 14.3% in the quantities sold and 16.9% in first sale receipts. The exports to the United States also grew; +15.6% in volume and 11.2% in receipts. The main external market – France – presented negative change rates (-0.7% in the quantities sold and -0.9% in value). Sales in the local market remained almost unvaried while exports to mainland Portugal also increased (48.7% in volume and 66.2% in value).
Around three quarters of the commercialized wine was sold in bottles at the average price of €6.18 per litre, while the remaining 24.7% was bulk wine sold at €2.66 per litre.
Commercialisation of embroideries, tapestries and furnishing articles in a steady decline
In 2014, the commercialisation of embroideries, tapestries and furnishing articles stood at 844.4 thousand euros, dropping by 12.2% compared to 2013. The downward trend has been steady since 1998, except for 2006 and 2007. In 2014, more than half of the sales were made in the domestic market while the USA, the United Kingdom and Italy remain as the most import external markets.
