Commercialisation of “Madeira” Wine decreased by 6.4% in volume and by 12.8% in value
According to data provided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute, P.I., the commercialisation of “Madeira” wine stood at 739,695 litres, generating first sale receipts of 3.7 million euros. When compared with the corresponding period of 2014, the quantities sold decreased by 6.4% and the sales value declined by 12.8%.
For the period January to June 2015, the year-on-year change rates were also negative; the sales volume decreased by 7.4% and the receipts went down by 11.7%.
It should be highlighted that in first six months of 2015 there were increases in the exports for two of the main markets, namely France (+15.1% in volume and +13.9% in value) and Great Britain (+15.4% and +21.7%, in the same order). However, the positive rates of change were the exception rather than the rule, with the decline in the sales to Germany (-16.0% in volume and -11.2% in value) and to the U.S.A. (-28.3% and -31.2%, in the same order) standing out negatively. The Madeira” wine commercialised in the Region dropped by 36.2% in volume and by 38.4% in value. Exports to mainland Portugal also went down by 14.5% in volume and by 32.5% in receipts.
