In the first quarter of 2016

Unemployment rate was estimated at 14.3%

The Labour Force Survey results for the first quarter of 2016 indicate that the unemployment rate for Madeira was estimated at 14,3%. This value went down by 0.4 percentage points (p.p.) from the previous quarter (14.7%) and by 1.5 p.p. from same quarter of 2015 (15.8%).

The unemployment rate in Portugal stood at 12.4% (12.2% in the previous quarter and 13.7% in the first quarter 2015).

In the period of reference, the estimate of the unemployed population in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was 18,903 persons, recording a quarterly decrease of 1.5% (-296 unemployed persons) and a year-on-year decrease of 9.8% (-2,061 persons).

There were 113,119 employed persons, which corresponds to a quarterly increase of 1.4% (+1,573 employed persons). Compared to the same period of the previous year the number of employed persons grew by 1.1% (+1,223 employees).
