In the first six months of 2021

Main fuels released for consumption increased by 11.9% year-on-year

In the first six months of 2021, the main fuels released for consumption (diesel oil and gasoline) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira totalled 63.4 million litres, increasing by 11.9% compared to the same period of 2020.

After the 15.1% drop in the 1st quarter of the current year, the 2nd quarter of 2021 registered a recovery of 50.4% compared to the same period of the previous year, which is explained by the severe restrictions for pandemic control in force in the 2nd quarter of 2020.

In the 1st half of 2021, 46.4 million litres of the main fuel – diesel oil – were released for consumption, up by 11.6% over the same half of the previous year. In what concerns gasoline, the demand for unleaded 95 gasoline increased by 11.7% while the demand for unleaded 98 grew by 15.0%. The sales of these fuels were 12.5 and 4.5 million litres, respectively.

Concerning gas, the release for consumption of propane and butane stood at 5.0 and 3.4 thousand tonnes, respectively. Concerning natural gas, 12.5 thousand tonnes were released for consumption, in the reference period, up by 7.4% year-on-year.

Taking into consideration the second quarter of 2021, the main fuels released for consumption (diesel oil and gasoline), in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, totalled 35.1 million litres, increasing by 50.4% compared to the same period of 2020. 25.6 million litres of the main fuel – diesel oil – were released for consumption between April and June 2021, growing 46.6% over the year-ago period.

 As for gasoline, the demand for unleaded 95 gasoline showed an increase of 70.0%, while the demand for unleaded 98 increased by 40.2%. The sales of these fuels were 7.1 and 2.4 million litres, respectively.

Concerning gas, in the second quarter of 2021, the release for consumption of propane and butane stood was the same,1.7 thousand tonnes, while the quantity of natural gas released for consumption was 6.7 thousand tonnes (+34.9% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

The average price of diesel in the second quarter of 2021 was €1.328

In the 2nd quarter of 2021, the mean price for diesel oil was €1.328, a higher price than the one registered in the corresponding quarter of 2020 (€1.106). When compared to the previous quarter, the price of this type of fuel grew by 8.6 cents.

The mean price for unleaded 95 gasoline was €1.562, increasing by 26.1 cents compared to the 2nd quarter of 2020. That price grew 11.1 cents from the previous quarter.
