Turnover and employment in the rendered services to enterprises increased

The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira releases today the preliminary data for 2017 of the Business Services Survey.

The Services Rendered to Enterprises are comprised of the following eight activities: “Computing”; “Legal”, “Accountability, auditing and consulting”, Architecture and Engineering”, “Technical testing and analysis”, “Advertising”, “Market studies and opinion polls” and “Employment related activities”.

The turnover of Services Rendered to Enterprises generated by enterprises located in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM) stood at 218.1 million Euros, rising by 69.4 million from the previous year (+46.7%). This figure, which has been increasing since 2014, is the highest of the available series (that begins in 2008). The information now available indicates that in 2017 the turnover of “Architecture, engineering activities and related technical consulting” totaled 34.6 million Euros in 2017, increasing by 126.8% compared to 2016. Legal activities generated 12.0 million Euros, up by 1.3% over 2016.

In the year of reference, the activities connected to Services Rendered to Enterprises employed 4,616 persons, up by 816 persons when compared to 2016 (+21.5%). As in the case of turnover this number is also a maximum. Employment in the activities of Services Rendered to Enterprises has been growing since 2015.

The share of female employment decreased 4.1 percentage points from 2016 to 2017, to 36.0%, the lowest figure of the available series.

The turnover by person employed increased by 20.7% from 2016, totalling 47.2 thousand Euros in 2017, as did the ratio of personnel costs by person employed, reaching 16.8 thousand Euros in 2017 (rose by 22.6% from the year before). In both cases, it is the highest value ever.

In the country, the Services Rendered to Enterprises grew by 9.0% and persons employed rose by 5.6%.
