Balance between formed and dissolved corporations was positive

According to the data provided to Statistics Portugal by the Directorate General of the Policy of Justice, in 2017, the number of formed corporations headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (981) was higher than the number of dissolved corporations (575), which resulted in a positive balance between the formation and dissolution of corporations (+406). In the previous year this balance had also been positive (+60).

This is the largest positive balance between formed and dissolved corporations since 2008 (+497).

The data broken down by economic activity show that the most pronounced positive balance was observed in “Accommodation and food service activities” (+123), followed by “Consultancy, scientific and technical activities” (+79), “Real estate activities“ (+74), “Information and communication activities” (+38) and “Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” (+32). Inversely, negative balances were recorded in “Transportation and storage” (-14), “Financial and insurance activities” and “Construction” (-7, in both activities).

In the 4^th quarter 2017, the balance between formed and dissolved corporations was +68 (228 formed corporations and 160 dissolved).
