In the 3^rd quarter 2019

Balance between formed and dissolved corporations was positive (+134)

According to the data provided to Statistics Portugal by the Directorate General of the Policy of Justice, in the 3^rd quarter of 2019, the number of formed corporations headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (240) was higher than the number of dissolved corporations (106), which resulted in a positive balance between the formation and dissolution of corporations (+134). Compared to the year-ago quarter, the number of formed corporations went up by 18 while the number of dissolved corporations decreased by 26.

The data broken down by economic activity show that the most pronounced positive balance was observed in “Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” (+37), followed by “Accommodation and food service activities” (+28) and "Consultancy, scientific and technical activities” (+24). Conversely, negative balances were recorded only in “Construction” (-8) and “Transportation and storage” (-1).

The balance between formed and dissolved corporations in the January to September 2019 period was +409 (833 formed corporations and 424 dissolved).

During the first nine months of the year, the ratio between formed and dissolved corporations stood at 1.96, below national average (3.06).
