In July 2018
Madeira’ economy continued to slow down
The Regional Economic Activity Indicator (IRAE) shows that, in July 2018, the economy grew at a slow pace and at a lower rate compared to the previous month. Due to its weight in the economy of the Region, the drop in tourism is affecting economic growth. It should be recalled that in July, the overnight stays fell by 4.4% in tourist accommodation as a whole (and by 7.3% in hotels). However, the variables that integrate the IRAE, which intend to represent the various components of the economy have decelerated in this month.

It should be noted that this indicator is a synthesis instrument whose objective is to facilitate the timely monitoring of the regional economy, in particular as regards to direction and magnitude of fluctuations, and does not present itself as a substitute for other official statistics, namely of annual rate of change of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Monthly Economic Indicators – July 2018
Together with RIEA is published the Monthly Economic Indicators - July 2018, an instrument for monitoring the economic situation, which provides the most recent data on regional economic activity.
