DREM releases regional Tourism Satellite Account for the year 2015
The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira releases today, on its official statistics website, the results of the 2015 Tourism Satellite Account of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (TSA-M).
The TSA is an instrument that consists of an integrated information system, whose main objective is to present the activities and products, directly or indirectly related, with Tourism.
It allows assessing the economic dimension of this sector, as well as measuring its importance in terms of Employment, allowing a comparison with other economic sectors in the Region, in the country and internationally.
According to the TSA-M, the Gross Value Added generated by Tourism (GVAGT) in 2015 accounted for 15.9% of the GVA of the regional economy and stood at 591.3 million euros.
Tourism consumption in the economic territory (TCET) was estimated at 1,128.5 million euros, representing 26.6% of the regional Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
These two ratios - the share of GVAGT in total GVA and the share of TCET in GDP - are the most important results of the TSA-M. It should be noted that the share of tourism in the economy should be measured by the ratio between GVAGT and GVA.
In turn, the employment in the characteristic activities of tourism, measured in number of workplaces, accounted for 16.7% of the total regional employment.
