DREM releases Barometer of the Outermost Regions
The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) releases today a set of statistical information on the nine regions of the European Union (EU) benefiting from the status of Outermost Regions (ORs), as defined by Article 349 of the Treaty of the Functioning of the EU (TFEU).
This new statistical product, entitled "Barometer of the ORs", gathers in a single file, a set of indicators that characterise the ORs, based on data from several bodies, most of them producers of official statistical data.
The release is organised in twelve sections: territory, population, education, health, labour market, income, economic accounts, agriculture, transport, tourism, science and technology and information society.
The main conclusions for each subject are summarised as follows:

Population - Portuguese ORs are the least populated
Education - The ORs have a worse performance than the countries they belong to

Labour market - Unemployment rates in the Portuguese ORs are much lower than in the other regions
Income - Macaronesia ORs with a worse performance on the at-risk-of-poverty rate than the respective Member States
