In June 2025
Confidence indicators in Construction and Public Works and Services increased, while those in Manufacturing and Trade declined
According to data collected by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) through the Qualitative Business Surveys (QBS), it was observed that, in June 2025, confidence indicators in the Manufacturing and Trade sectors declined compared with the previous month, whereas Construction and Public Works and Services recorded an increase.
The confidence indicator for the Manufacturing sector decreased in both May and June, after having risen in April. This downward trend was driven by negative contributions from all components: assessments of overall demand evolution, production expectations, and evaluations of finished goods inventories. The balance of expectations concerning selling prices increased in June, following a decrease in the previous month.
In the Construction and Public Works sector, the confidence indicator increased in June, after having decreased in May. This recent development reflected a positive contribution from assessments of the order book, while employment expectations contributed negatively. The balance of expectations for prices to be charged over the next three months decreased in both May and June, after having risen in April.
The confidence indicator for Trade declined in June, following an increase in the previous month. The indicator’s evolution in June was due to negative contributions from components such as expectations regarding business activity and stock levels, while the volume of sales contributed positively. The balance of future price expectations decreased in both May and June, after having increased in the two preceding months.
In the Services sector, the confidence indicator increased for the fifth consecutive month, reversing the downward trend observed over the previous seven months. This improvement resulted from positive contributions across all components: assessments of past developments in the order book, evaluations of business activity, and expectations regarding future demand evolution. The balance of expectations related to service prices declined in both May and June, following an increase in April.
