In the 1^st half of 2026

Egg production and poultry meat increased compared with the year-on-year period, while livestock slaughtering, landed catch and aquaculture production decreased

According to information collected by the Regional Statistics Directorate of Madeira (DREM) from the Region's industrial poultry farms, in the 1^st half of 2026, egg production stood at around 22.5 million units, an increase of 28.0% year-on-year. In the same period, poultry meat grew by 0.4% compared with the first six months of the previous year, totalling 1 674.0 tonnes.

Narrowing the scope of the analysis to the 2^nd quarter of 2026, egg production rose year-on-year by 11.3%, while poultry meat fell by 4.7%.

In turn, according to data provided by the Autonomous Region of Madeira Slaughter Centre (CARAM), between January and June 2026, livestock slaughtering stood at around 330.1 tonnes, a year-on-year change of -10.5%.

In the fishing sector, information collected from the Regional Directorate for Fisheries, for the 1^st half of 2026, shows that this period was characterised by a year-on-year decrease in landed catch volume (-19.1%), with the total standing at around 1 792.9 tonnes. The same trend was observed in the first-sale value recorded (-28.0% compared with the 1^st half of 2025), with the half-yearly total standing at 7.6 million euros. In the 2^nd quarter of 2026, year-on-year changes remained negative, both in the volume of landed catch (-18.5%) and in the first-sale value (-27.5%).

By species, compared with the 1^st half of 2025, tuna and similar species recorded a decrease of 17.5% in catch volume and 32.6% in first-sale value. Black scabbardfish showed steeper declines, of 25.2% in catch volume and 33.2% in first-sale value. Despite these decreases, black scabbardfish remained the most abundant species in the 1^st half of 2026, accounting for 50.7% of total fish caught, followed by tuna and similar species, with a share of 43.1%.

The average price of fish recorded at first sale for the period under review (excluding fish landed for self-consumption from these calculations) was 4.31 euros (4.80 euros in the same period of 2025), with the average price for tuna and similar species reaching 3.46 euros (4.20 euros in the year-on-year period) and for black scabbardfish standing at around 4.52 euros (5.02 euros in the first six months of the previous year).

Aquaculture production decreased 37.3% year-on-year

According to information collected by DREM from aquaculture production companies in the Region, in the 1^st half of 2026, 430.2 tonnes of seabream were produced, representing a year-on-year decrease of 37.3%. Likewise, sales totalled 3.2 million euros, a decline of 26.3% compared with the 1^st half of 2025. The sector's performance this half-year was affected by the absence of seabream of marketable size, a situation linked to low water temperatures and a reduction in the number of cages used in production.

By market, 78.8% of sales value relates to the national market (Mainland and Azores), and only 21.1% to the regional market.

In the 2^nd quarter of 2026, the volume produced and sales value recorded year-on-year decreases of 38.7% and 29.5%, respectively.
