In the first eight months of 2018
Commercialisation of banana decreased by 15.3% compared to the same period of 2017
According to the data provided by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRA), in the first eight months of 2018, 11,464.8 tonnes of banana produced in Madeira were commercialised, down by 2,063.0 tonnes when compared to the same period of 2017. Of that total, 81.3% was dispatched, mainly to Mainland Portugal.
Class extra (-24.4%) of the product determined this decrease, since the commercialisation of class II grew by 9.8% and the sales of class I remained almost unchanged from the year-ago quadrimester. 61.0% of the total of commercialised banana belonged to the Extra class.
The year-on-year change rate of the 2nd quadrimester was -30.5% (+16.4% in the previous quadrimester).
