In the 1st half of 2025
Banana sales declined by 9.2% year-on-year

According to data provided by the Regional Directorate for Agriculture and Rural Development (DRA), a total of 9 800.9 tonnes of bananas were sold in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM) during the 1st half of 2025, representing a decrease of 990.7 tonnes compared with the same period of the previous year (-9.2%). Of this total, 79.9% was dispatched (compared with 81.8% in the 1st half of 2024), with the Mainland being the main destination.

When compared to the same period in 2024, all classes recorded decreases. Sales of extra class bananas fell by 8.1%, class I by 16.3%, and class II by 5.1%.

It is worth noting that in the reference period, extra class bananas accounted for 80.5% of total bananas sold, up from 79.6% in the same period of the previous year, corresponding to an increase of 0.9 percentage points in their share.

June recorded the highest volume of banana sales in the 1st half of 2025 (1 946.1 tonnes), with January and June being the only months to register year-on-year increases (+5.7% and +1.9%, respectively). In contrast, April saw the sharpest decline in the sale of this agricultural product, with a 20.6% decrease compared to the same month of 2024.
