In the third quarter 2020
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic the number of transacted dwellings in the Autonomous Region of Madeira hit record high
In the third quarter 2020, 864 dwellings were traded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, up by 64.6% over the previous quarter and by 10.2% compared to the 3rd quarter 2019. This is the highest number of transacted dwellings since the series started (1st quarter 2009). The quarterly increase is explained but the drop in the 2nd quarter in which the effects pandemic in the economy were stronger.
From that total, 651 were existing dwellings and the remaining 213, new dwellings. Compared to the previous quarter, the number of traded existing dwellings went up by 66.9% (+7.4% y-o-y) and while for the new dwellings there was a 57.8% rise (+19.7% y-o-y).
The value of transacted dwellings in the reference quarter was approximately 126.1 million euros, representing a 68.0% increase over the previous quarter and a 21.8% growth compared to the same quarter of the prior year. The sales value for the new dwellings stood at 38.9 million euros and for the existing dwellings at 87.2 million euros.
In Portugal, the number of transacted dwellings in the third quarter 2020 reached 45.1 thousand (a 35.1% increase compared to the last quarter), generating a sales value of 6.8 billion euros (+31.2%). The y-o-y growth rates were -1.5% and +4.4%, respectively.
