Median price of dwelling sales in the Autonomous Region of Madeira stood at 1 196 euros per square meter
Statistics Portugal (INE) released today the information for the 4th quarter of the median price of dwelling sales. In fact the data released refer to the median (value that separates the sorted set of prices per square meter in two equal parts) and reflect the sales associated to the 12-month period, i.e. the data for the 4th quarter are calculated with the information of the 4th quarter and also from the 3 previous quarters. This information comes from anonymised administrative tax data provided by the Portuguese Tax and Customs Authority (AT), regarding Property Transfer Tax (IMT) and the Municipal Property Tax (IMI).
In the 4th quarter 2019 (last 12 months), the median price of dwelling sales in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was 1 196 euros per square meter. Compared to the previous quarter, the price went up by 0.8%, while in year-on-year terms it decreased by 0.9%. By the same order, the growth rates for the country were +2.6% and +8.5%, respectively. The value for new dwellings (1 288 euros per square meter) was higher than the value for existing dwellings (1 180 euros per square meter).
In the last two years, i.e. comparing the 4th quarter 2019 with the same quarter of 2017, there was a 6.2% growth, below the country’s average (16.0%).
In the reference quarter, the median value of dwelling sales in Portugal stood at 1 081 euros per square meter, the highest value of the series, reaching 1 183 euros per square meter for the new dwellings and 1 064 euros per square meter for the existing dwellings.
