Value of performed works by construction enterprises headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira rose by 31.7%
According to provisional data from the Annual Survey of Construction Enterprises (IAEC), in 2021, the value of performed works by construction enterprises headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira amounted to 640.7 million euros, a 31.7% increase compared to 2020. Of that amount 63.0% concerned building works (403.9 million euros) and the remaining 37.0% to civil engineering works (236.7 million euros), with these two components recording increases of 44.5% and 14.4%, respectively. It should also be noted that new construction was the largest contributor (share of 45.4%) to the overall value of the activity of construction enterprises in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
The construction enterprises with 20 or more employees accounted for 72.9% of the total value of the performed works, generating 466.8 million euros, a 30.2% increase compared to 2020. In this group of enterprises, the building works (56.2% of the total value of performed works of enterprises of this size) had a higher share than civil engineering works (43.8%), contrary to the previous year (47.6% and 52.4%, by the same order). In 2021, building works generated around 262.2 million euros, up by 53.6% over the previous year.
In smaller enterprises (under 20 employees), the value of performed work topped 173.9 million euros, up by 36.0% from 2020. Works carried out in buildings accounted for 81.5% of the total value of performed works by this type of enterprise, and they were mainly related (49.6%) to new building construction.
