Value of works carried out by construction enterprises headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased by 18.7% compared to the previous year
According to data from the Annual Survey on Construction Enterprises (IAEC), in 2024, the total value of works performed by construction enterprises in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) amounted to 1 073.8 million euros, reflecting a rise of 18.7% compared to the previous year. This represents the highest value recorded since 2008. Of this amount, 66.7% pertained to building works (716.2 million euros), while the remaining 33.3% pertained to civil engineering works (357.5 million euros), with both components registering increases of 13.9% and 29.8%, respectively. It is noteworthy that new constructions accounted for the largest contribution (45.% of the total) to the overall value of the construction sector's activity in the ARM.
Construction enterprises with 20 or more employees accounted for 67.4% of the total value of works carried out, generating approximately 724.0 million euros, an increase of 10.3% from 2023. In this category of enterprises, the works carried out in building construction represented 66.0% of the total value of work performed, significantly outweighing civil engineering works (34.0%). This mirrors the distribution observed in the previous year (65.3% and 34.7%, in the same order). Works carried out in building construction represented, in the reference year, around 477.6 million euros, an increase of 11.4% compared to the previous year.
For smaller-sized enterprises (under 20 employees), the value of work carried out totalled 349.8 million euros, an increase of 41.1% from 2023. The majority of this value came from works carried out on buildings (68.2% of the total value, i.e., 238.6 million euros), with the largest share (29.9%) related to new building construction.
