Building permits in the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased compared to the same period in the previous year

During the first semester of 2024, a total of 276 buildings were granted licenses, marking a 9.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023 when there were 253 licensed buildings.

Among these licensed constructions, 73.2% were new buildings (202 in total), with a significant majority of 86.1% being intended for residential purposes (174 in total). This resulted in the licensing of 316 new dwellings, showing a substantial decrease of 54.9% compared to the first semester of 2023 when 701 dwellings were licensed.

In terms of completed buildings during the reference semester, there was a 19.5% decrease compared to the corresponding period, totalling 194 completed buildings. Among these, 67.0% were new constructions designed for residential housing (130 in total). When focusing on the completed dwellings within these new residential constructions (344 in total), the results indicate an increase of 60.0% compared to the same semester in 2023 (215 dwellings).
