Breaking down the data by economic activity, it is observed that the overall positive balance in the reference year was mainly driven by “Accommodation, and food services” (+220), “Transport and storage” (+211), “Construction” (+153), “Real estate activities” (+114), and “Professional, scientific, technical and similar activities” (+105). Conversely, the only activity recording a negative balance was “Water collection, treatment and supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities” (-2).

In the reference period, the number of incorporations exceeded dissolutions in all 11 municipalities of the Autonomous Region of Madeira: Funchal (998 versus 286), Santa Cruz (162 versus 40), Câmara de Lobos (98 versus 19), Calheta (65 versus 14), Ponta do Sol (54 versus 7), Machico (80 versus 34), Ribeira Brava (46 versus 12), São Vicente (28 versus 8), Porto Moniz (16 versus 2), Porto Santo (17 versus 5) and Santana (16 versus 7).

In 2025, the ratio between incorporations and dissolutions in the Autonomous Region of Madeira stood at 3.64, slightly below the value observed at the national level (3.70).

Focusing the analysis on the 4th quarter of 2025, the balance between incorporations and dissolutions (+205) contributed to the annual evolution referred to above. Compared with the 4th quarter of 2024, when the balance had stood at +240, a decrease was observed both in the number of new company incorporations (from 383 to 338) and in the number of dissolutions (from 143 to 133).

By economic activity, the most pronounced positive balances in the 4th quarter of 2025 were recorded in “Accommodation and food services activities” (+39), “Construction” (+32), “Real estate activities” and “Professional, scientific, technical and similar activities” (+27), and “Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” (+26). In contrast, “Electricity, gas, steam, hot and cold water and cold air”, “Water collection, treatment and supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities” and “Arts, entertainment, sports and recreational activities” (-1) were the only activities in which the number of dissolutions exceeded incorporations.
