Turnover and employment in the rendered services to enterprises increased

The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira releases today the preliminary data for 2018 of the Business Services Survey.

The Services Rendered to Enterprises are comprised of the following eight activities: “Computing”; “Legal”, “Accountability, auditing and consulting”, "Architecture and Engineering”, “Technical testing and analysis”, “Advertising”, “Market studies and opinion polls” and “Employment related activities”.

The turnover of Services Rendered to Enterprises generated by enterprises located in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM) stood at 279.9 million Euros in 2018, rising by 82.8 million from the previous year (+42.0%). This figure, which has been increasing since 2014, is the highest of the available series (that begins in 2008). However, this sharp increase in 2018 is largely determined by units based at the International Business Center of Madeira (IBC).

The information now available indicates that in 2018 the turnover of “Accounting, auditing and consulting activities” totalled 89.4 million Euros in 2018, followed by “Computing”, which generated 82.9 million euros.  "Architecture and Engineering” and  “Employment related activities” stand as the third and fourth more important activities with a turnover of 33.6 and 33.1 million euros, respectively.  

In the year of reference, the activities connected to Services Rendered to Enterprises employed 5,708 persons, up by 1,395 persons when compared to 2017 (+32.3%). Employment in the activities of Services Rendered to Enterprises has been growing since 2015, and in fact, as in the case of turnover this number is also a historic high.

“Accounting, auditing and consulting activities” and "Computing" led in terms of employment, with 1,851 e 1,145 workers, respectively. 

The share of female employment increased by 0.4 percentage points from 2017 to 2018, to 38.6%.

The turnover by person employed increased by 7.2% from 2017, totalling 49.0 thousand Euros in 2018. The ratio of personnel costs by person employed, showed an identical trend rising by 15.4% to 16.5 thousand Euros.
