Turnover and employment in the rendered services to enterprises increased
The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira releases today the preliminary data for 2019 of the Business Services Survey.
The Services Rendered to Enterprises are comprised of the following eight activities: “Computing”; “Legal”, “Accountability, auditing and consulting”, "Architecture and Engineering”, “Technical testing and analysis”, “Advertising”, “Market studies and opinion polls” and “Employment related activities”.
The turnover of Services Rendered to Enterprises generated by enterprises located in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM) stood at 356.8 million Euros in 2019, rising by 113.1 million from the previous year (+46.4%). This figure, which has been increasing since 2014, is the highest of the available series (that begins in 2008). However, this sharp increase in 2019 is largely determined by units based at the International Business Center of Madeira (IBC).
The information now available indicates that in 2019 the turnover of “Computing” totalled 179.5 million Euros in 2019 (+95.7 million Euros compared to 2018), followed by “Accounting, auditing and consulting activities”, which generated 72.2 million euros (+12.7 million Euros compared to 2018). "Architecture and Engineering” and “Advertising” stand as the third and fourth more important activities with a turnover of 31.7 and 24.2 million euros, respectively.
In the year of reference, the activities connected to Services Rendered to Enterprises employed 6,080 persons, up by 831 persons when compared to 2018 (+15.8%). Employment in the activities of Services Rendered to Enterprises has been growing since 2015, and in fact, as in the case of turnover, this number is also a historic high.
“Accounting, auditing and consulting activities” and "Computing" led in terms of employment, with 1,858 and 1,396 workers, respectively.
Breaking down employment by sex, the data show that approximately 2/3 are men and 1/3 women. From 2018 to 2019, the share of female employment decreased by 2.4 percentage points, to 33.8%.
The turnover by person employed increased by 26.5% from 2018, totalling 58.7 thousand Euros in 2019. The ratio of personnel costs by person employed decreased by 0.6%, from 17.0 thousand Euros in 2018 to 16.9 thousand Euros in 2019.
