Turnover of business services activities increased by 44.3% compared to 2021
The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) released today the final data for 2022 from the Business Services Survey.
The Business Services Survey are comprised of the following eight activities: “Computing”; “Legal activities”, “Accountability, auditing and consulting”, "Architecture and Engineering”, “Technical testing and analysis”, “Advertising”, “Market studies and opinion polls” and “Employment related activities”.
In 2022, the turnover of services rendered to enterprises generated by enterprises located in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) reached 662.3 million euros, an increase of 203.5 million euros compared to the previous year, reflecting a growth of 44.3%. The turnover of companies engaged in these activities has been continuously increasing since 2014, reaching the highest value in the available series (which starts in 2008) in 2022.
The amount derived from "Computing" activities was the highest among the Business Services Survey, around 280.6 million euros (+79.6 million euros compared to the previous year, or +39.6%). In turn, "Accountability, auditing, and consulting" generated 114.6 million euros (+14.2 million euros compared to 2021, i.e., +14.1%), while "Architecture and Engineering" and "Legal Activities" recorded turnovers of 92.2 million and 18.9 million euros, respectively (+56.1 million euros and +2.5 million euros compared to the previous year). The turnover in "Employment related Activities" was 60.2 million euros in 2022.
In the reference year, the "Business Services" activities employed 9,121 persons in the ARM, an increase of 240 compared to 2021 (+2.7%). Similar to turnover, the number of persons employed in these activities is at a historical high, and this variable has been continuously growing since 2015.
The "Employment Activities" employ 2,765 persons, while "Accountability, auditing, and consulting activities" and "Computing activities" had 2,314 and 2,011 workers, respectively.
Breaking down employment by sex, it is observed that about 61.1% are men, and 38.9% are women, with the proportion of female employment increasing by 3.2 percentage points from 2021 to 2022.
It is noteworthy that the turnover per employed person in business services activities increased from 51.7 thousand euros in 2021 to 72.6 thousand euros in 2022 (+20.9 thousand euros).
The ratio of personnel costs per employed person in business services activities also grew, increasing from 16.5 thousand euros in 2021 to 23.7 thousand euros in 2022 (+7.2 thousand euros).
