Turnover and employment in rendered services to enterprises increased compared to 2020
The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) releases today the preliminary data for 2021 of the Business Services Survey.
The Services Rendered to Enterprises are comprised of the following eight activities: “Computing”; “Legal”, “Accountability, auditing and consulting”, "Architecture and Engineering”, “Technical testing and analysis”, “Advertising”, “Market studies and opinion polls” and “Employment related activities”.
In 2021, the turnover of Services Rendered to Enterprises generated by enterprises located in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) stood at 499.4 million euros in 2021, rising by 182.9 million from the previous year (+57.8%). This figure, which has been growing successively since 2014, is the highest of the available time series (that begins in 2008).
The information now available indicates that in 2021 the turnover of “Computing services” totaled 242.8 million euros (+111.7 million euros compared to 2020). “Advertising” generated 50.6 million euros, while "Architecture, engineering activities and related technical consulting” and “Legal activities” had a turnover of 36.1 and 16.3 million euros, respectively (+5.5 and +2.4 million euros compared to 2020).
In the year of reference, the activities connected to Services Rendered to Enterprises employed 8,544 persons, up by 1,586 persons when compared to 2020 (+22.8%). Employment in the activities of Services Rendered to Enterprises has been growing uninterruptedly since 2015, and in fact, as in the case of turnover, this number is also at a historic high.
“Computing services”, "Architecture and Engineering" and “Legal activities” had 1,889, 998 and 606 workers, respectively.
Breaking down employment by sex, the data show that approximately 64.4% are men and 35.6% are women. From 2020 to 2021, the share of female employment increased by 0.6 percentage points.
It should be noted that, with regard to both turnover and employment, “Accounting, auditing and consulting activities”, which concentrates a relevant share in both variables, are excluded from the analysis due to the statistical confidentiality treatment applied by Statistics Portugal.
The turnover by person employed increased from 45.5 thousand euros in 2020 to 58.5 thousand euros in 2021 (+28.6%), having reached the highest value of the available time series.
The ratio of personnel costs by person employed also increased by 19.6%, from 14.8 thousand euros in 2020 to 17.7 thousand euros in 2021.
