In the first nine months of 2021

Main fuels released for consumption increased by 14.5% year-on-year

According to data provided by Alfândega do Funchal, in the first nine months of 2021, the main fuels released for consumption (diesel oil and gasoline) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira totalled 104.1 million litres, increasing by 14.5% compared to the same period of 2020.

In the first nine months of 2021, 75.6 million litres of the main fuel – diesel oil – were released for consumption, growing by 14.7% over the same period of the previous year. Regarding gasoline, the demand for unleaded 95 gasoline increased by 16.1% while the demand for unleaded 98 grew by 7.9%. Between January and September 2021, the sales of these fuels were 21.4 and 7.1 million litres, respectively.

Concerning gas, the release for consumption of propane and butane stood at 7.5 and 4.2 thousand tonnes, respectively. Regarding natural gas, 20.1 thousand tonnes were released for consumption in the reference period, up by 11.4% year-on-year.

Taking in consideration the 3^rd quarter of 2021, the main fuels released for consumption (diesel oil and gasoline) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira totalled 40.7 million litres, increasing by 18.8% compared to the same period of 2020.

In this quarter, 29.2 million litres of the main fuel – diesel oil – were released for consumption, increasing by 19.9% over the year-ago period. Regarding gasoline, the demand for unleaded 95 gasoline went up by 22.8%, while the demand for unleaded 98 decreased by 2.4%. The sales of these fuels were 8.9 and 2.6 million litres, respectively, the months of July to September 2021.

Concerning gas, the release for consumption of propane and butane stood at 2.5 and 0.7 thousand tonnes, respectively, while 7.6 thousand tonnes of natural gas were released for consumption in the 3^rd quarter of 2020, up by 18.8% over the year-ago quarter.

Average price of diesel in the 3^rd quarter of 2021 rose

In the 3^rd quarter of 2021, the mean price for diesel oil was €1.420, a higher price than the one registered in the corresponding quarter of 2020 (€1.127) and in the previous quarter (1.328€).

The mean price for unleaded 95 gasoline was €1.645, above that recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year (€1.360) and in the second quarter of 2021 (€1.562).
