In the first quarter of 2023
Main fuels released for consumption experienced a 5.9% growth when compared to the same period last year
During the first quarter of 2023, 37.6 million litres of the main fuels were released for consumption in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, specifically diesel oil and gasoline. This quantity represents a 5.9% increase compared to the first quarter of 2022, when 35.6 million litres of the main fuels were released for consumption.
Between January and March 2023, the consumption of diesel oil reached 26.0 million litres, reflecting a modest growth of 1.2% compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year. In terms of gasoline, the demand for unleaded 95 experienced a 20.8% increase, resulting in a release for consumption of 9.3 million litres, while the demand for unleaded 98 witnessed a 7.9% rise, with a total release of 2.3 million litres.
Regarding gas, the first quarter of 2023 saw a release for consumption of 2.5 thousand tonnes of propane, marking a 24.9% decrease compared to the first quarter of 2022. Additionally, 0.9 thousand tonnes of butane were released for consumption, indicating a 50.1% decrease compared to the same period last year. Moreover, 2.6 thousand tonnes of natural gas were consumed during the reference period, reflecting a significant decline of 73.4% compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
Average fuel prices in the first quarter of 2023 decreased
In the first three months of 2023, the average price of diesel was 1,441 euros per litre, which was lower than the price recorded in the same period last year (1,573 euros) and the previous quarter (1,660 euros). Similarly, the average price of unleaded 95 gasoline was 1,593 euros per litre, also lower than the corresponding period of the previous year (1,757 euros) and the fourth quarter of 2022 (1,669 euros).
