In the first quarter of 2024

Main fuels released for consumption increased by 2.5% compared to the same period last year 

According to data provided by the Customs of Funchal, in the first three months of 2024, the main fuels released for consumption (diesel and gasoline) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira reached around 38.6 million litres, a value higher than that of the same quarter of the previous year by 2.5% (37.6 million litres in the first quarter of 2023).

Between January and March 2024, 26.0 million litres of diesel were released for consumption, a decrease of 0.2% compared to the same period last year. Regarding gasoline, it is observed that the sales of 95-octane and 98-octane gasoline were approximately 9.9 million and 2.7 million litres, respectively, representing, in the same order, changes compared to the same quarter of the previous year of +7.1% and +14.8%.

As for propane and butane gas, the release for consumption in the reference period was approximately 3.2 and 1.8 thousand tonnes, respectively, while, in natural gas, the volume was 4.2 thousand tonnes (+63.8% compared to the same quarter of the previous year).

Average fuel prices decreased in the first quarter of 2024

In the first three months of 2024, the average maximum price for retail sales of diesel oil were 1.369 euros, lower than that recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year (1.441 euros) and the previous quarter (1.424 euros). In the case of 95-octane gasoline, the average price was 1.584 euros, also below that observed in the corresponding period of the previous year (1.593 euros), and the fourth quarter of 2023 (1.621 euros).
