In the first nine months of 2024
Main fuels released for consumption increased by 3.3% compared to the same period last year
According to the data provided by the Funchal Customs, in the first nine months of 2024, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), the main fuels released for consumption (diesel and gasoline) reached 124.0 million litres, a value higher than the same period in the previous year by 3.3%.
From January to September 2024, 81.5 million litres of diesel were released for consumption, reflecting a 0.1% increase compared to the same period last year. The release for consumption of 95-octane and 98-octane gasoline reached 33.9 and 8.6 million litres, respectively, representing increases of 9.6% and 11.6% over the same period.
For propane and butane gas, the release for consumption in the reference period was approximately 8.7 and 4.0 thousand tonnes, respectively (a decrease of 7.7% and an increase of 36.6% from the previous year). Regarding natural gas, the volume released for consumption was 18.0 thousand tonnes, an increase of 126.8% over the same period last year.
Narrowing the analysis to the third quarter of 2024, it is observed that in this period, the release for consumption of the main fuels (diesel and gasoline) totalled 43.6 million litres, which is 3.1% higher than the same period last year. During this quarter, the demand for diesel was 28.0 million litres (0.2% lower compared to the same quarter in 2023). Regarding gasoline, it was observed that the 95-octane variety had an increase of 9.0% compared to the same period the previous year, while the release for consumption of 98-octane gasoline was 11.9% higher than in the same period last year, with 12.5 and 3.1 million litres released for consumption in the months of July to September 2024, respectively.
Average price of diesel decreased in the third quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year but increased compared to the previous quarter
In the third quarter of 2024, the average price of diesel was 1.405 euros, lower than the price in the corresponding period of the previous year (1.449 euros) and higher than the second quarter of 2024 (1.351 euros).
As for 95-octane gasoline, the average price was 1.695 euros, reflecting an increase of 2.3 cents compared to the same period last year and a rise of 4.2 cents compared to the previous quarter.
