In 2021

Inflation rate in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was 1.1%

In 2021, the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month average rate in Madeira was 1.1%, increasing by 2.5 percentage points (pp) when compared to the previous year (-1.4%). It should be noted that this indicator has been on an upward trajectory since February of 2021, becoming positive in the month of September.

The underlying inflation indicator, measured by the total index excluding unprocessed food and energy, showed a rate of 0.4%, up by 2.1 pp from the previous year (-1.7%).

Goods recorded a rate of 1.5% and services of 0.6%.

The highest positive changes occurred in “Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” (+1.4%) and "Transports" (+5.7%) classes. On the other hand, the largest negative changes were observed in “Education” (-3.6%), "Clothing and footwear” and “Furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house”, both classes at -1.2%.

In Portugal, the value of that rate was 1.3%, 1.3 pp higher than in the previous year (0.0%).

In 2021, the average value of housing rents per square meter of floor area in the Region increased by 1.5% over the previous year.
