Consumer Prices Index 12-month average rate in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was 1.8%

In February 2022, the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month average rate in Madeira was 1.8%, increasing by 0.3 percentage points (pp) when compared to the previous month. It should be noted that this indicator has been on an upward trajectory since February 2021, turning positive in September of the same year. The underlying inflation indicator, measured by the total index excluding unprocessed food and energy, recorded a rate of 0.9%, up 0.3 pp on the previous month.

Goods registered a rate of 2.4% and services of 1.0%.

The highest positive changes occurred in “Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” (+2.4%) and "Transports" (+7.3%) classes. On the other side, “Education“ registered the largest negative change (-2.8%) followed by "Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” (-1.0%).

In Portugal, the value of that rate was 1.8%, 0.3 pp higher than in the previous month.

Comparing February 2022 with the same month of 2021, the prices grew by 3.6% (+4.2% in the country), while between January and February 2022, the change rate was +0.3% (+0.4% in the country).

In February 2022, the average value of housing rents per square meter of floor area in the Region had a change of +0.2% compared to the previous month and increased by 2.0% over the same month of the previous year.
