12-month average rate of change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 3.5%
In January 2025, the 12-month average rate of change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, stood at 3.5%, increasing by 0.2 percentage points (pp) compared to the previous month.
The underlying inflation indicator, which excludes unprocessed food and energy products, was recorded at 3.8%, reflecting an increase of 0.1 pp from the previous month.
Goods rose by 2.0%, while services experienced a more pronounced increase of 5.4%.
The most significant price increases were observed in the classes of "Restaurants and Hotels" (9.0%), "Communications" (6.5%), and "Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels" (4.5%). Conversely, "Clothing and Footwear" was the only class to register a negative change (-1.0%).
At the national level, the CPI recorded a 12-month average rate of change of 2.4%, remaining unchanged from the previous month.
On a year-on-year basis, comparing January 2025 with the same month of 2024, the price rate of change stood at 4.3% (2.5% at the national level), an increase of 0.3 pp from the previous month (4.0%).
On a monthly basis, in January 2025, prices increased by 0.1% (0.9% in the previous month). Nationally, the monthly change was -0.5% (0.1% in the preceding month).
In January 2025, the average housing rent per square metre of floor area in the Region increased by 1.1% compared to the previous month and by 8.0% compared to the same month of the previous year (0.7% and 8.2% in the last month, respectively).
