12-month average rate of change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 3.6%

In February 2025, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, the 12-month average rate of change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 3.6%, increasing by 0.1 percentage points (pp) compared to the previous month.

The underlying inflation indicator, which excludes unprocessed food and energy products, was recorded at 3.9%, reflecting a rise of 0.1 pp from the previous month.

The prices of goods rose by 2.1%, while services saw a more significant increase of 5.5%.

The most pronounced price increases were observed in the categories of “Restaurants and Hotels” (9.5%), “Communications” (5.9%), and “Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels” (4.7%). Conversely, the “Clothing and Footwear” category was the only one to register a negative change (-0.2%).

At the national level, the CPI recorded a 12-month average rate of change of 2.5%, an increase of 0.1 pp from the previous month.

On a year-on-year basis, comparing February 2025 with the same month in 2024, prices increased by 4.1% (compared to 2.4% nationwide), a decrease of 0.2 pp from the preceding month.

On a monthly basis, in February 2025, prices increased by 0.3% (compared to 0.1% in the previous month). Nationally, the change was -0.1% (compared to -0.5% in the previous month).

In February 2025, the average housing rent per square meter of floor area in the Region increased by 0.4% compared to the previous month and by 7.6% compared to the same month of the previous year (1.1% and 8.0% in the last month, respectively).
