Twelve-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 3.2%
In March 2026, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), the 12-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 3.2%, remaining unchanged compared to the previous month.
The underlying inflation indicator, which excludes unprocessed food and energy products, stood at 2.8%, representing a decrease of 0.1 percentage points (pp) compared to the preceding month.
The prices of goods increased by 2.1%, while services recorded a more pronounced rise of 4.4%.
The largest positive changes were observed in the expenditure classes of “Restaurants and hotels” (8.1%), “Health” (4.5%) and “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” (4.0%). Conversely, “Clothing and footwear” recorded the most significant negative change (-1.3%).
At the national level, the CPI recorded an average rate of change of 2.3%, remaining unchanged compared to the previous month.
In year-on-year terms, i.e. comparing March 2026 with the same month of 2025, prices increased by 3.2% (2.7% at the national level), corresponding to an increase of 0.4 pp compared to the previous month. The classes of “Transport” and “Restaurants and hotels” (both contributing 0.8 pp) were those that most influenced the year-on-year change in the CPI.
On a monthly basis, in March 2026, prices increased by 1.4% (0.8% in the previous month). At the national level, the CPI change was 2.0% (0.1% in February 2026).
In March 2026, the average value of housing rents per square metre of floor area in the Region recorded a change of 0.4% compared to the previous month and 6.5% compared to the same month of the previous year (0.7% and 7.0% in the previous month, respectively).
