Withdrawals together with the purchases through automatic payment terminals registered a 3.5% increase when compared to 2014

Data provided by the Interbank Services Society (SIBS) for 2015 show that the cash withdrawals together with the purchases through automatic payment terminals (APT) increased by 3.5% compared with the previous year (below the 5.0% increase registered in Portugal). In the aforementioned period, the rate of change of cash withdrawals was null while the purchases through APT rose by 7.0%. In turn, the amount spent on payments had a 1.8% decrease.

International cards were used to withdraw 73.5 million Euros (2.2% increase), while the amount of withdrawals using national cards totaled 587.6 million Euros, down by 0.3% when compared with 2014.

At the country level, national withdrawals rose by 1.0% while the international withdrawals increased by 3.3%. The average growth in withdrawals was 1.2%.

Concerning purchases through automatic payment terminals, the growth rate for 2015 was higher in Portugal (+8.4%) than in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (+7.0%). In the Region, the purchases through APT using national cards increased by 7.4% while those made using international cards rose by 5.1%.

DREM updates the time series on the Multibanco network operations

Since the year 2015 has come to an end, DREM updated the time series on the Multibanco network operations, whose tables in most cases begin in 1997. Data on operations, withdrawals, consultations, payments, purchases through APT, number of terminals and ATM machines are now available.
