In November 2024
Passenger traffic at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased by 11.2% year-on-year
According to information provided by ANA - Airports of Portugal to the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), in November 2024, the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) recorded a movement of 380.1 thousand passengers, transported on 2,670 commercial flights, representing year-on-year changes of +11.2% and +6.2%, respectively.
Over the first eleven months of 2024, changes in aircraft and passenger movements were +0.9% and +4.4%, respectively.
Each aircraft (considering both landings and take-offs) transported, on average, approximately 147 passengers at Madeira Airport (compared to 141 in November 2023), while at Porto Santo Airport, the average remained stable at 64 passengers, the same as the corresponding month of the previous year.

In November 2024, passenger movement at airports in the Autonomous Region of Madeira grew by 17.3% in international traffic and by +4.0% in the domestic segment.
At Madeira Airport, international traffic accounted for 57.5% of the total, surpassing domestic traffic (42.5%). At Porto Santo Airport, there was a preponderance of domestic traffic (70.3% of the total), although with less disparity compared to October 2024.
In this reference month, regular flights at the ARM airports accounted for 91.6% of the total aircraft movements (similar to the same month in 2023) and 93.6% of passengers (94.5% in November 2023).
In November 2024, the occupancy of aircraft movements at the ARM airports averaged 84.4%, with Madeira Airport reaching 84.8% and Porto Santo at 71.5%. These figures represent an improvement compared to the same period in 2023, when the occupancy rates were lower for the two regional airports combined (81.1%), as well as for Madeira Airport (81.6%) and Porto Santo Airport (69.0%).
From January to November 2024, passengers embarked and disembarked at the ARM airports totalled 4 663.1 thousand, with half corresponding to traffic exclusively between airports located within the national territory, including internal and domestic connections (46.7% of the total together), while the other half was international traffic (53.3%). In the context of the latter, the United Kingdom was the main country of origin and destination for international flights from the ARM airports (28.6%), followed by Germany (20.8%) and France (8.9%).
