Passenger movement at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded a year-on-year increase of 14.9%
According to information provided by ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal to the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), a total of 563.5 thousand passengers were handled at the Autonomous Region of Madeira airports in July 2025, transported on 3 776 aircraft (commercial flights), representing year-on-year changes of +14.9% and +15.0%, respectively.
During the month in question, Madeira Airport recorded increases in both aircraft movements (3,410; +13.9% compared with July 2024) and passenger numbers (524.0 thousand; +14.3%). At Porto Santo Airport, an even larger increase was observed in aircraft movements (366; +26.2% year-on-year) and passenger numbers (39.5 thousand; +23.5%).
For the first seven months of 2025, aircraft and passenger movements increased by +13.3% and +12.2%, respectively.

In July 2025, each aircraft (considering both landings and take-offs) carried an average of approximately 154 passengers at Madeira Airport (153 in July 2024), while at Porto Santo Airport, the corresponding figure was nearly 108 passengers (110 in the same period of 2024).
Passenger movement in July 2025 showed a year-on-year increase of 19.6% in international traffic (314.4 thousand) and +9.4% in domestic traffic (249.1 thousand).
At Madeira Airport, international traffic predominated, accounting for 58.9% of the total, compared with 41.1% for domestic traffic. At Porto Santo Airport, domestic traffic prevailed (85.2% of the total), with a slightly higher proportion than in the same period of 2024 (83.9% of the total).
In the month under review, scheduled flights at the ARM airports accounted for 91.7% of total aircraft movements and 93.9% of passengers (92.9% and 94.9% in July 2024, respectively).
In July 2025, aircraft load factors at the ARM airports averaged 88.2%, with Madeira Airport reaching 88.6% and Porto Santo Airport 84.1%. In the previous year, load factors were higher across both regional airports combined (90.4%) and at Madeira Airport (90.9%), whereas Porto Santo Airport recorded a lower occupancy rate (83.6%).
Between January and July 2025, the total number of passengers embarked and disembarked at the ARM airports (excluding transit passengers) amounted to 3 239.8 thousand. Of this total, 44.0% corresponded to traffic exclusively between airports within national territory, including domestic and internal connections, while 56.0% was international traffic. Among international traffic, the United Kingdom remained the main country of origin and destination for the ARM flights, representing 27.0% of the total, followed by Germany (20.7%). France ranked third (10.3%), closely followed by Poland (9.7%).
