Passenger movement at the Autonomous Region of Madeira airports recorded a year-on-year growth of 2.3%
According to information provided by ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal to the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), in March 2026, a total of 452.7 thousand passengers were recorded at the ARM airports, transported on 3 052 aircraft (commercial flights), reflecting year-on-year changes of +2.3% and +2.6%, respectively.
In the reference month, Madeira Airport recorded an increase of 1.2% compared to March 2025, both in aircraft movement (2 841) and in the number of passengers (437.1 thousand). Likewise, Porto Santo Airport also recorded an increase, albeit of greater magnitude, in aircraft movement (211; +26.3% compared to the same period of 2025) and in the number of passengers (15.6 thousand; +46.2%).
In the first three months of 2026, the changes in aircraft movement and passenger numbers were +2.4% and +4.0%, respectively.

In the reference month, each aircraft (considering both landings and take-offs) carried, on average, approximately 154 passengers (the same value as in March 2025) at Madeira Airport, whilst at Porto Santo Airport, that figure reached approximately 74 passengers (64 in the same period of 2025).
In March 2026, passenger movement at the ARM airports increased by 6.7% in international traffic (267.8 thousand) and decreased by 3.5% in the domestic segment (184.9 thousand).
At Madeira Airport, international traffic (59.6% of the total) predominated over domestic traffic (40.4%). At Porto Santo Airport, domestic traffic predominated (53.4% of the total), but with a smaller disproportion compared to the same period of 2025 (60.8%).
In the reference month, scheduled flights at the ARM airports accounted for 92.4% of total aircraft movements and 95.1% of passengers (91.5% and 93.1% in March 2025, respectively).
In March 2026, the load factor of aircraft at the ARM airports stood at around 86.7%, with Madeira Airport reaching 87.3% and Porto Santo Airport 75.0%. In the previous year, the year-on-year load factors were lower across both regional airports (86.0%), at Madeira Airport (86.7%) and at Porto Santo Airport (65.6%).
From January to March 2026, the total number of passengers embarked and disembarked at the ARM airports (excluding transit passengers) totalled 1 181.6 thousand, of which 41.7% corresponded to traffic exclusively between airports located in national territory, including domestic and interior connections, and 58.3% to international traffic. Within the latter, the United Kingdom (29.0%) and Germany (21.7%) were the main countries of origin and destination of international flights at the ARM airports. Poland (12.1%) ranked third, followed by the Netherlands (5.8%).

Madeira Airport has one more route than in the IATA Winter 24/25
The IATA (International Air Transport Association) Winter season began on 26 October 2025 and ended on 27 March 2026. During this period, Madeira Airport operated commercial flights by 32 airlines (32 in IATA Winter 24/25), with 66 routes (65 in the same period of the previous year) and to 61 destinations (61 in IATA Winter 24/25). At Porto Santo Airport, commercial flights were operated on 3 routes (5 in IATA Winter 24/25), by 3 airlines (5 in the same period of the previous year) and to 3 destinations (5 in IATA Winter 24/25).
