In April 2026
Passenger movement at the Autonomous Region of Madeira airports recorded a year-on-year growth of 2.2%
According to information provided by ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal to the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), in April 2026, the ARM airports recorded a total of 520.5 thousand passengers transported on 3 417 aircraft (commercial flights), reflecting year-on-year changes of +2.2% and +2.1%, respectively.
In the reference month, Madeira Airport recorded an increase of 2.4% compared to April 2025, both in aircraft movements (3 193) and in the number of passengers (501.2 thousand). At Porto Santo Airport, there was a decrease in aircraft movements (224; -1.3% compared to the same period in 2025) and in the number of passengers (19.3 thousand; -3.2%).
In the first four months of 2026, the changes in aircraft and passenger numbers were +2.3% and +3.4%, respectively.

In the month under review, each aircraft (considering both landings and take-offs) carried an average of approximately 157 passengers (the same value as in April 2025) at Madeira Airport, while at Porto Santo Airport, that figure reached approximately 86 passengers (88 in the same period in 2025).
In April 2026, passenger traffic at the ARM airports increased by 3.2% in international traffic (298.5 thousand) and by +1.0% in the domestic segment (222.0 thousand).
At Madeira Airport, international traffic (58.4% of the total) predominated over domestic traffic (41.6%). At Porto Santo Airport, domestic traffic accounted for 69.9% of total passenger traffic, remaining the largest segment, although it was less dominant than in the same period of 2025, when it represented 80.9% of the total.
In the reference month, scheduled flights at the ARM airports accounted for 93.6% of total aircraft movements and 95.9% of passengers (92.5% and 94.6% in April 2025, respectively).
In April 2026, the aircraft occupancy rate at the ARM airports stood at around 87.1%, with Madeira Airport reaching 87.5% and Porto Santo Airport 77.6%. Last year, the year-on-year occupancy rate was lower across both regional airports combined (86.8%), at Madeira Airport (87.3%), and at Porto Santo Airport (76.1%).
From January to April 2026, embarked and disembarked passengers at the ARM airports (excluding transit passengers) totalled 1 700.5 thousand, 42.0% of whom corresponded to traffic exclusively between airports located in national territory — including domestic and interior connections— and 58.0% to international traffic. Within the latter, the United Kingdom (27.8%) and Germany (21.2%) were the main countries of origin and destination for international flights at the ARM airports. Poland (10.9%) ranked third, followed by France (6.8%) and the Netherlands (5.9%).
