Passenger movement at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded a slight year-on-year decrease of 0.5%
According to information provided by ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal to the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), in June 2026, the airports of the ARM recorded traffic of 519.2 thousand passengers, carried on 3 438 aircraft (commercial flights), representing year-on-year changes of -0.5% and -2.4%, respectively.
In the month under review, Madeira Airport recorded a decrease in the number of passengers (484.1 thousand; -1.1% compared with June 2025) and in aircraft movements (3 107; -3.5%). At Porto Santo Airport, on the other hand, there was an increase in the number of passengers (35.2 thousand; +8.6% compared with the same period of 2025) and in aircraft movements (331; +9.6%).
In the first six months of 2026, taken together for the two airports, aircraft movements and passenger traffic changed by +1.6% and +3.1%, respectively.

In the month under analysis, each aircraft (considering together those that landed and took off) carried on average around 156 passengers (152 in June 2025) at Madeira Airport, while at Porto Santo Airport this figure reached approximately 106 passengers (107 in the same period of 2025).
In June 2026, year-on-year, passenger traffic at the ARM airports increased by 1.3% in international traffic (286.9 thousand), while the domestic segment saw a decrease of 2.7% (232.3 thousand).
At Madeira Airport, international traffic (57.5% of the total) predominated over domestic traffic (42.8%). At Porto Santo Airport, domestic traffic was predominant (75.8% of the total), though with a smaller disproportion compared with the same period in 2025 (90.0%).
In the month under review, scheduled flights at the ARM airports accounted for 94.1% of total aircraft movements and 96.1% of passengers (93.4% and 95.1% in June 2025, respectively).
In June 2026, the load factor of aircraft movements at the ARM airports stood at around 88.4%, with Madeira Airport reaching 88.8% and Porto Santo Airport 84.5%. In the previous year, the year-on-year load factor was lower for the two regional airports combined (86.4%), at Madeira Airport (86.8%) and at Porto Santo Airport (81.0%).

From January to June 2026, passengers embarked and disembarked at the ARM airports (excluding transit passengers) totalled 2 756.2 thousand, of which 42.9% corresponded to traffic exclusively between airports located in the national territory, which includes internal and domestic connections,, and 57.1% to international traffic. Within the latter, the United Kingdom (27.1%) and Germany (20.5%) were the main countries of origin and destination for international flights at the ARM airports. Poland (9.9%) ranked third, followed by France (9.2%) and the Netherlands (6.4%).
