The average daily expenditure of tourists surveyed visiting Madeira was EUR 116.27

The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) releases today the results of the International Tourism Expenditure Survey, which was held in two different period of 2013, from July, 22 to August, 18 (“high season”) and from October, 21 to November, 17 (“low season”). In Madeira the only visitors surveyed were the non residents in the Portuguese territory.

The average daily expenditure per capita (ADEpc) of the surveyed tourists living abroad that visited Madeira in 2013 amounted to EUR 116.27.

93.3% of the visitors travelling to Madeira came for “leisure and holidays”. The “tourist package” and “restaurants, coffee-shops and bars” were the most important items related to the tourist travel expenditures, representing almost two thirds (65.4%) of the ADEpc, followed by the “international transports” (12.5%) and “accommodation” (8.5%).

Breaking down the data by country, the figures show that the tourists coming from Russia, Switzerland and the Scandinavian countries were those who had the higher ADEpc, which stood at EUR 163.37; EUR 135.76 and EUR 124.88, respectively.
