In October 2015
Madeira’s hotel industry kept up a steady growth, with the year-on-year rise in revenue above the increase in the overnight stays
Initial estimates for October 2015 show increases in the tourism indicators with positive year-on-year rates of change in overnight stays (+4.6%), total revenue (+12.7%) and lodging revenue (+14.5%).
At the country level, the rates of change stood at +6.9% in nights spent, +14.4% in total revenue and +14.9% in revenue from accommodation.
The number of overnight stays in Madeira in the month of reference was 560,200. The total revenue and the revenue from accommodation stood at 28.3 and 17.8 million euros, respectively.
Looking at the data broken down by market, it should be highlighted that for the reference month the year-on-year change rates in nights spent by the Portuguese and foreign tourists were +4.0% and +4.7%, respectively.
In the first ten months of 2015, the overnight stays increased by 4.8% when compared to the same period of 2014, while the growth in total revenue (+9.4%) and lodging revenue (+11.1%) was more pronounced.
The net bed occupancy rate in the reference month reached 64.8%, up by 4.6 percentage points from October 2014 and remaining as the highest between the Portuguese NUTS2 regions.
The average income per room (RevPAR) recorded a year-on-year change rate of +17.8%, increasing to € 42.67.
Concerning overnight stays, revenue and RevPAR this was the best October in the history of the regional tourism industry.
